Lipa Gets Cancelled

Been a while since Lipa was cancelled.

I'm not impressed with much of what he's done since A Poshiter Yid, which was brilliant, and consider him to be a largely irrelevant figure on the Jewish music stage these days.

That said, this reflects his better side. Shame on Satmar! Their rebbes (both of them) had the sense to condemn Neturei Karta publicly these past weeks. This is an embarrassment for them.

Gotta Hand It To Her

Over at Kikar Shabbat... U.S. Ambassador Tom Nides' comments on Yuval Dayan's Performance

This is super important and puts paid to those arguing she was disrespectful to President Biden. It's clear that the President and administration did not view it that way at all. In fact, I consider this rare video response to be an attempt by Ambassador to encourage religious tolerance, and I think the administration should be commended for it.

Shwekey Tribute to Piamenta

It's lovely that Shwekey tributed Yossi Piamenta Z"L. However, it's a shame that he didn't include more of Yossie and Avi's original music in this medley, like any of the songs off of "Mitzvah" for example. Instead, it's mainly focused on the (mostly) secular songs they adapted.

It's also a shame that the original artists for (most of) those songs aren't acknowledged. Kol Hamesameach is "Turkish Kiss" by Tarkan and Asher Bara is "Land Down Under" by Men at Work. Siman Tov is partially credited. The original track title is "Jungle" by Kongas feat. Cerrone. I don't know the original title for Yaala Mashiach, but I believe that's an adaptation as well.

Vus Far A Casio Iz Dus?

How OMB beats influenced Reggae

One day, someone will write a doctoral thesis on how the beats in early one-man-band arranger keyboards influenced Chasidic music.

Talmudic Ballad Project

BDE - Yoram Taharlev Z"L

Yoram Taharlev, well known Israeli songwriter and poet dies at 84.

Taharlev penned lyrics for numerous Israeli hits. One of his well-known songs was Al Kapav Yavi. Here's a classic recording of it by Yehoram Gaon.

Other well-known lyrics he penned include Bapardes, Od Lo Tamu Kol Pla'ayich, Kum Vehithalech Ba'aretz, and Shehashemesh Ta'avor Alai.

K'shmo Ken Hu

Beautiful song by Danny Zamir! He's had a rough time of late. So amazing that he can turn it into such powerful art.

Just Stop It!

I have to say this!

It's becoming a thing to do the Shlomo Carlebach bit in the middle of Im Eshkachech. "If you would have stop a Yiddele on the way to the gas chamber and ask him 'where are you going?' He'd have answered: 'I'm on my way to Yerusholayim'... etc." I've had several singers do this at gigs I played.

I can not express how tasteless I feel this is. I have no words. Just chills. You all need to stop it; not post video clips of yourselves doing it. For goodness sakes, there are still survivors at some of these events and there are many children (and grandchildren) of survivors. Maybe Shlomo could pull this off (I'm not convinced). You, however, definitely can't.

Un A Taam
